Paper in ResearchGate

I added my paper on technology solutions for hand hygiene compliance as a preprint in ResearchGate. The paper was based on a signature assignment I prepared at Northcentral University (w.taskstream.com/ts/moore783/SignatureAssignmentProposalMonitoring.html/acf5e6eq00akfcfkf7e8edfefl).

View the preprint here: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/378547801_Are_Technology_Solutions_For_Hand_Hygiene_Compliance_A_Better_Option_For_Improving_Compliance_Rates. I made a lot of changes to the signature assignment paper. It is significant for a discussion on the economics of IT.

Updates 5/8

Over the past few days, I submitted the two papers I was working on for publishing. I sent them to the journals that requested/suggested specific changes. One of the papers was much longer than the previous version. I hope that isn't an issue.

I am also dealing with the insurance company concerning my automobile accident. The latest information is that the vehicle is considered a "total loss" (the cost to repair is more than the value of the vehicle or it cannot be repaired). So it looks like I will be paid the value of the vehicle with the expectation that I will purchase a new one. What a surprise! I actually like my vehicle. Before the accident, it was in excellent condition.

Make It Better By Stopping For A While

A cup of green tea

Today, I am drinking green tea again. Recently, I had lots of fluids (soda, juice, almond milk) which may have caused my chest to hurt. So now I am drinking way less fluids. I would hate to be back on oxygen like I was in the hospital.

The hand hygiene compliance paper is not yet finished. I stopped working on the paper for a few days so that: (1) I will look at it anew (with "fresh" eyes) when I start working on it again, and (2) I will think of new ideas and make new connections while away. When I start working on the paper again, I am sure I will notice issues that I missed before and will have other ideas on how to organize the paper and information to include. Hopefully, I will also hear from the folks I asked to critically review the paper when I am ready to start working on it again.

I was working on another paper that benefited from my time away from it. I noticed issues and even came up with a new theory to organize the literature. The paper is much better.

Still Working

I am still working on the hand hygiene paper. I have reviewed and edited most of the paper. There is still work to do reviewing the remaining sections.

I was out yesterday taking care of business (related to my vehicle). The repair of my vehicle is finally moving forward. Hopefully, all repairs will be completed in a few weeks and the accident will be a distant memory!

Progress With Paper

I am still working on my paper on electronic hand hygiene compliance monitoring for publishing. I am finding a lot of recent research on the topic, i.e. research published since I completed my signature assignment (the assignment is available here: https://w.taskstream.com/ts/moore783/SignatureAssignmentProposalMonitoring.html/acf5e6eq00akfcfkf7e8edfefl). I decided to add some of the recent research to the paper. I also sent a draft to the professor who graded the signature assignment for review.

I am trying not to exert myself too much. Just recently, I was dealing with some serious health issues. A few days ago, my mother sent me this photo to remind me of my journey:

Update 4/21

I am enjoying a cup of green tea while I work. I am steadily getting the work on my hand hygiene paper done.

I decided to have a second pair of eyes review my latest version so I sent the paper to my father for review. Hopefully, he has some time to do a thorough review.

I had an appointment at Enterprise Rent-a-Car scheduled for today (Allstate decided to assist me with the rental of a vehicle to get around while my vehicle is being repaired). The appointment was canceled because Enterprise is out of vehicles for rent.

It is surprising that so many people are renting cars. Months ago, I tried to rent a vehicle and got the same result. People are probably renting cars for travel/vacation. When I was on vacation about six months ago, I was amazed that so many people were traveling. The highways were full. The hotels were fully booked. There seems to be a mad rush to catch up on vacation now that COVID is less of an issue.

I am still waiting for Allstate to make a decision on the amount I will receive for inconvenience (I assume the matter is not closed). I am hoping I will receive more than they are currently offering.

Lots Of Work

Yesterday, I received emails from two journals. One of the journals asked for more revisions to the manuscript. The other told me that my paper is "not sufficiently developed to proceed to the next step" and I should "continue to refine my work." Both of the journals provided really good feedback/information. I actually received ideas on analysis/details I should include in the paper. I appreciate the comments on how to make the papers better. Now, I have a lot of work to do.

Affected papers:

  • Paper on technology solutions for hand hygiene compliance
  • Literature review paper on online reviews

Still Catching Up

Over the last few days, I was working on revising my paper on technology solutions for hand hygiene compliance. The journal requested the changes. I finally finished the updates a short while ago and resubmitted the paper for publishing.

I would really like the paper to be published. It is in a "different" format (much like a proposal) but it is the first to test the habit-forming theory for explaining the effect of a hand hygiene compliance solution on performance and employee satisfaction. Luckily, I found a journal that accepts different papers.

One thing I have learned from submitting papers for publishing in journals is that the journals prefer "tried and true" formats.

Familiar Names

I see familiar names around me. Hill-Rom is familiar because of my research into technology solutions for hand hygiene compliance during my Research Methods course.

Away

I was away for a while - in the hospital dealing with health issues. I am now out of the hospital and doing better. Please note that I am not yet fully involved in my usual/normal activities.

Update 2/1

I am still working on updating my hand hygiene (electronic monitoring) paper for publication. I have passed the half way point. In the paper, I consider previous research that utilize both qualitative and quantitative designs, similar to another paper I prepared.

Journal Articles For Publication Update

I received a few more updates from journals/publishers. I am excited about the update from Health Technology. I also submitted two articles for publication today - one is the completed article on involving marketing professionals early in the new product development process (the paper that started as a paper to use theories to create a marketing plan).

An excerpt from the marketing paper:

I submitted it to the Journal of Marketing Management.

Responses From Journals

I received feedback from a few journals/publishers.

I received a courteous ("nice") letter from Health Technology Journal. The team there will discuss my submission and get back to me.

I received a rejection letter from another journal. It provided good feedback.
I think the editor was expecting a more extensive or thorough literature review. That organizational structure paper is based on only three articles not 20 or 30 articles like other papers. I think I need to identify/raise an issue or think of a way to make a more substantial contribution to the literature.

I am still working on the marketing paper. I am reviewing market research.

Paper Edited And Ready For Publishing

I made minor changes to the paper that includes the proposal for a study on technology solutions for hand hygiene compliance (I prepared the proposal for the Research Methods course - "under the hood" information for the course shown here: https://fmooresignatureassignment3.blogspot.com/). The paper is now ready for publishing again.

I had trouble finding journals that accept "proposal" papers so I decided to submit a question about acceptance of this "different" paper to a journal. I mentioned that the paper uses a new theory for explaining employee performance in the hand hygiene area - the habit-forming theory. One of the main hypotheses in the paper is that technology solutions for hand hygiene compliance will improve employee performance in the short term in a manner that follows an asymptotic curve, i.e. there a steady increase in performance that peaks at a certain level. This is in line with the habit-forming theory.

I hope to hear from the editor soon.

Paper On Use Of IS Success Model

I recently submitted another article for publishing. That paper was a signature assignment submitted to ncu.edu for grading many years ago. It was on the use of technology to monitor employees to improve compliance and performance in the area of hand hygiene.
(Link to the Signature Assignment paper: https://w.taskstream.com/ts/moore783/SignatureAssignmentProposalMonitoring.html/acf5e6eq00akfcfkf7e8edfefl)

I made few edits to it. I added some information on the direct observation method - the recommended standard practice for monitoring hand hygiene compliance by the World Health Organization (WHO). I also made some changes to incorporate success. I mentioned success but did not include/use the IS success model.

Incidentally,

I found an interesting article that used the IS success model to determine the effectiveness of new technology - augmented reality - in mobile shopping. The author used a survey to collect information on perceptions.

The last article I reviewed on augmented reality determined/calculated the usability of the product (product evaluated for use by children). This article looked more at perceived diagnosticity and consumer satisfaction. It is related to usability.
