I completed 11 signature assignments - significant papers with original ideas. In one paper, I foresaw specific problems at a major company. In another, I designed a study (with statistical analyses) to explain why videos do not significantly enhance or improve online reviews. I worked alone. Publishing Update 2/20

I received a few rejection letters. I need to find new journals to submit the papers to. Just as a lot of researchers say, publishing in academic journals is challenging. Here is the link to an example from one researcher: https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs.chas.0c00111

Struggles

From my Twitter account:

Independent Contributor

I am interested in why individuals choose to become specialists in their fields (independent contributor track) rather than a manager/leader and also why some may switch from the independent contractor track to the management track. I will look for prior research in this area.

I recently made a comment about this area in LinkedIn:

So far, I found one article on the shift from independent contributor to manager:

Programming

Some people may be surprised that I learned programming in high school (at President’s College in Guyana, a country in South America and member of the CARIbbean COMmunity). Computer Studies was one subject/course at the school. I had an expatriate teacher who was very knowledgeable. He taught us a lot. However, I found some of the classes to be boring. I actually fell asleep in some classes (partly because the classes were in the afternoon - after lunch). For the GCE examination, I completed a Pascal program to solve simultaneous equations. I chose that topic because I had recently learned to solve simultaneous equations in Math class. I worked really hard on that program. My teacher provided really good guidance. I remember the euphoria I experienced when I got the program to run/compile and work. I also recall the down feeling I experienced when a classmate asked what happens when a user enters an incorrect character/entry. I tried it and the program crashed. I then tried to make the program provide messages when that occurred.

My GCE O-Level certificate shows that I wrote the Computing Studies exam (and, of course, completed the required project). To see the certificate, click the statistics or economicsandIT label/tag.

Some Food To Eat

Yogurt and flavored sparkling water.

Food - yogurt and sparkling water

Grapefruit

I grew up liking grapefruit. There was a grapefruit tree in the backyard (of my childhood home) that provided lots of the fruit. I liked the yellow color of the skin. It was clear on the inside. I liked to cut the fruit in halves (across), sprinkle some sugar on each half and then eat (the pulp and juice) with a spoon. I know now that there is the risk of excess potassium from eating grapefruit. That would not deter me from eating the fruit or drinking grapefruit juice though.

Yellow Foods

Earlier today I mentioned the colored drinks I purchased at Starbucks (the pink drink and the green matcha tea). Talk of colors made me think of my Sunny & Bright Pinterest board/category that features foods and other things that are yellow. The yellow foods include a lemon loaf (which is incidentally a Starbucks copycat), a yellow smoothie, saffron rice, mango ice cream, pineapple and more. The link to the board is: https://www.pinterest.com/fahmeenaodetta/sunny-bright/

The board includes a few photos showing sunny and bright places. One of those places is the Starbucks in Gainesville, Florida. I took the photo showing bright light streaming in. I completed quite a few assignments in that Starbucks.

Matcha

I suspected that matcha provides many health benefits. I learned from a recent article that it provides benefits such as protection of the brain and fighting off infections. The benefits are way more than I expected! This recent article from Women's Health provides details:

https://www.womenshealthmag.com/food/a27127259/matcha-powder-benefits/

I learned of matcha from YouTuber Mike Chen. I saw him go for matcha several times on one of his channels (I believe it was Strictly Dumpling). I get matcha from Starbucks. It has a "different" (maybe unusual) taste. I like that it is green. Isn't it interesting that I get colored drinks from Starbucks - the pink drink and the green matcha? I will get matcha when I visit Starbucks again.

Paper For Publishing

While working on a paper for publishing on online communities, it occurred to me that the shepherding program described in one of the included articles is a lot like the pastorial system I experienced at President's College. A look at how that program was run and its success would make a great paper for publishing. Excerpts from the paper I am working on are included below.

More Water

Some things at President’s College were very elite. For example, we were taught to ride horses by trained “professionals.” We used bed linens/sheets made from custom-designed fabric that identified the school. Some things were “on a lower level.” We sometimes fetched buckets of water. My bucket was larger than a regular bucket so I would have more water for bathing or other activities.

Update 2/1

I am still working on updating my hand hygiene (electronic monitoring) paper for publication. I have passed the half way point. In the paper, I consider previous research that utilize both qualitative and quantitative designs, similar to another paper I prepared.
