Hotel stay

This #ThrowbackThursday, I remember how grateful I was that a room became available at a Holiday Inn Express in Virginia so that I could stay for a while. I was driving through Virginia on my way home to Maryland. I decided to stop. I quite liked the hotel. I enjoyed the breakfast. From the pictures (shown here: https://fahmeenaodetta.blogspot.com/2022/08/more-travel-pics.html), you can see I had both coffee and hot chocolate!

A few of my hotel stays are documented in this blog.

Cheese

This #Throwback Thursday I remember the cheese Guyana produced when I was a child. The cheese was salty and I didn't like it very much. However, that cheese made really good cheese straw. I loved cheese straw. Sharp cheese makes very good cheese straw.

Now, I prefer to eat other cheeses with my bread or crackers. I like American cheese, Swiss cheese, pepperjack cheese, and so on. Pepperjack cheese is really good. I am not certain where it originated, but the idea to add pepper and other seasonings to cheese was an excellent one!

Throwback

I was young, but I remember quite a lot about Watooka Day School. A post in Facebook made me think of pony combs I wanted when I was a student there. My friend Claudia wore them all the time. I liked her fat ponytails. I remember we wore brown and cream on regular days and white on Fridays. Looking back, I am proud that I qualified for the flutophone band. The school issued a red and white flutophone that I loved. I remember that there were swimming classes. I didn't like swimming very much.

Library

My phone is working again. I am able to make calls and receive text messages again.

This Thursday, I remember my days as a frequent user of the nearby New Carrollton library. I visited the library quite frequently to complete assignments/work. A lot of times I walked over to the library using a shorter path (shortcut). It was good exercise.

I used the library computers quite a lot to work on school assignments, complete job applications, and update my blog. After a while, I got smart about using the library computers. I ensured that I signed into an account that required entry of a code from my phone (two-factor authentication) for login. My LinkedIn research account is one such account - https://www.linkedin.com/in/fahmeenaodetta/.

I enjoy working at the library. It is good to see that it is now open on Sundays. In the past, I visited other libraries (within the PG County Memorial System) when I wanted to use library services on Sunday.

Experience as an auditor

Remembering (throwing back to) my days at the Office of the DC Auditor. The work was interesting and I became a much better writer. I worked on several audits/reviews. One of the audits I worked on was the audit of ANC 4C. The (published) report is available at: https://dcauditor.org/report/audit-of-advisory-neighborhood-commission-4c-for-fiscal-years-2000-through-2003-as-of-march-31-2003/. You can tell that I contributed to the report from the code shown on the title page (016:03:FM:gk). I was a main contributor. Looking back at it, I don't believe I included so many tables! I like them a lot. They work in the report. Another assignment was to assist a Senior Auditor with a parking meter audit (I guess I was a member of the audit team). I liked being on location at an office on U Street. The audit included a review of finances (parking meter revenues) but it was a performance audit.

Remembering a vacation

Today I remember my vacation time in Georgia many years ago (my second trip to Georgia since living in the United States). I enjoyed the drive there (from Maryland). I also enjoyed my time there. It felt like a vacation - I stayed at hotels, I spent some time exploring the local area, and so on. I was at ease in Georgia although I had a bad experience in the past (in another part of Georgia). I took some photos that I added to this blog. I remember I used the hotel computer in the lobby for a post.

These two posts show photos of some of my activities in Georgia:

A day in Gainesville

Today I throwback to a day that stands out in Gainesville, FL. When I lived in Gainesville, I was working towards my PhD. My days were filled with lots of work. I enjoyed  my PhD courses and tried to do my best at assignments. I made time for other things too. I have several videos from Gainesville. One is a video of a busy highway close to my old apartment. One day, when I went for a usual walk up the road from my apartment, I recorded the video. I remember a police officer came to see what I was doing. Federal and State Regulations

 #ThrowbackThursday

Today I throwback to an assignment I prepared for one of my database courses at NCU now National University. In the paper, I pulled together federal and state regulations/rules, standards, and policies that pertain the data protection. The paper was similar to a document I prepared on an audit project at Grant Thornton. However, the topic was different.

I recall that I qualified for that assignment at Grant Thornton because of my auditing background.

I conducted a very brief review of federal and state laws that regulate wages/pay because it is related to my paper on compensation and performance. There are laws that require equal pay, that is equal pay for people holding similar positions and for men and women. However, I read about wage gaps all the time.

There are also regulations that require a minimum wage. I wrote a paper on minimum wage. This also touches on compensation. Maybe I should add this as one of my research areas.

Paper I submitted for publishing

#ThrowbackThursday

Today I remember one of my papers that addressed how professionals are used in development processes and issues that may arise on where they are placed in the process. The paper focused on marketing professionals in the product development process. I got the idea from my experience at a previous employer where I was asked to assist to improve the quality of requirements from a position/role in the Testing/Quality Assurance Group. Requirements development and testing are two phases of the software development process.

At that company, there was some confusion about my role (and the role of a few others in a similar position). I recall that I was initially assigned a task that was more suited for another role at a meeting. Someone else took the task.
