The recipes use different oranges - mandarin oranges, Valencia oranges, and so on. They all seem like regular/normal oranges.
The orange is special
I have come to realize
When I was little, I did not like oranges much
My mother liked to put in quarters
I ate it just because it was there
The tangerine and grapefruit were similar and better options
I could peel the tangerine easily
And it was easy to halve the grapefruit and eat it with sugar
My mother made fresh orange juice but that was taken together with cod liver oil
The orange seemed more useful for its contribution to a flavorful cake.
Now I realize that the orange is useful for much more
I enjoy peeling the orange to form coils
The fruit juice is always welcome
I no longer take it with cod liver oil
I enjoy the juice as part of my breakfast
Commercial options come with or without pulp I call the grumbs
I was surprised to discover that dried orange peels are used in potpourri for fragrance
It is interesting that in stores, names such as navel oranges are used.
