Changes due to the Internet

Gone are the days

When students like me struggled to obtain details on countries, history, and so on for assignments

The Voici Paris assignment for my French high school class is an example

I needed details on the important places in Paris for the assignment

I had much difficulty finding the needed material

I did a lot to obtain what I needed - I went to library, asked my parents for assistance

My parents came through

I managed to prepare an adequate assignment

These days

There is the internet with websites such as the Google search website

A simple search such as 'Paris experience' provides lots of information for assignments such as Voici Paris

The user is connected with way more than needed

There is information on French hotels, flights to France, reviews by tourists, French culture and I could go on and on

It can be viewed as an information overload.

Did you see my previous post on the Voice Paris assignment? View it here: https://fahmeenaodetta.blogspot.com/2022/10/french-paris_18.html.

I recall that someone asked me for assistance with an information technology (IT) project on how technology changed (or is changing) the society five years ago.

Blogs For Tracking, Pinterest, Cheese

A lot of people use blogs to capture important information/details in their lives or just to keep track of their activities. Blogs are good for this. However, in my opinion, blogs are not the best option for some types of tracking. An example is the tracking of boards/categories created in my main Pinterest profile Pinterest.com/fahmeenaodetta. I tracked creation of the boards in a Google Docs document (shared document that has a single contributor). The document includes a list of the boards and shows screenshots with other important details on the boards. The document can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1av9nWkA5cpqrZQlGs8-zGj05Ulz18mMNVt-EmN_7tpU/edit

On my Pinterest profile…..

I enjoyed creating that profile. I gave the boards creative titles. It involved research. Some of the board titles are complex. An example is the ‘Say Cheese’ board. ‘Say Cheese’ is usually associated with taking photographs. My Pinterest board includes information on cheeses. I have an interesting cheese history/background.

I recall all sort of things related to cheese. Fromage is French for cheese. In my high school French class, we learned a song about wine and cheese: “Le vin de ma tante est sur la table de mon oncle, Le fromage de mon oncle est sur la table de ma tante…” The teacher required us to prepare a new verse to go along with the song.

And like links in a chain, I recall that my high school French teacher organized a run to the David Rose School for handicapped children (for a good cause).

French, Paris

One of my personal projects was to redo a project from my high school French class to prepare a summary of important places in France - called Voici Paris. I wanted to investigate the quantity of information available online for such a paper, including the pictures available for use. It was very difficult to obtain information on Paris when I needed to prepare my paper. I created a Flickr account (https://www.flickr.com/photos/moorefo1parisproject/ ) and a Twitter account (https://twitter.com/moorefparisproj ) for the information.

I studied French for several years in high school. I still remember the songs. Actually, I remember some of the French because of the songs. One day, just out of the blue, (i.e. on a random day), I realized that the song ‘Chevalier de la table ronde’ is about the Knights of the Round Table from the King Arthur story.

Years later, I studied French at UGy. In that university-level class, I learned French in a different way. The class focused more on reading and writing. I still remember the Faux Friends list. Here is a Faux Friends list I found online:
