Hospital Visit

Thinking about a solution
It is a good morning in Maryland. I am up early today. I had a rough night. I am worried that I will end up in the hospital again. Maybe there is a facility I could go to to receive care/treatment. I am thinking of a "live in" facility that specializes in what I need. I will talk to my family about it.

SSA
I dropped off the letter I prepared for the Social Security Administration yesterday. My father drove me to their building in Seabrook. They now have the letter. I await their decision.
These days I don't do much. I tire very easily. I have a cold. I am hoarse. I am not feeling well.

New Day
I am feeling a little better today. It is a good thing too because I need to work on a response to a letter from the Social Security Administration concerning my application for benefits. I have 10 days to respond. I am in the process of writing the response. More writing practice.

Past paper submitted to journal
New version of the paper on Organizational Structure and Innovation submitted to a reputable journal. I need to work on creating a named collection to show the publishing path of the paper (much like the collections I created for two other papers: https://fahmeenaodetta.blogspot.com/search/label/HandHygieneTechnologyPaperPublishingPath and https://fahmeenaodetta.blogspot.com/search/label/MarketingPaperPublishingPath)
The paper on Organizational Structure and Innovation is available as a preprint in ResearchGate: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/395594500_Organizational_Structure_and_Innovation.

Work on paper
I am working on the paper again. I am not feeling my best but I like to practice writing. I like what I have so far. The research proposed in my student/PhD paper is clearly important. Maybe I need two papers. I realize there are other important issues.

Paper Writing Started
Now that I have a good concept map, I can start working on the paper (I don't usually prepare concept maps for my papers; this time was different). I think this will be a paper that raises issues.

Concept Map
The following diagram shows how concepts related to compensation and performance connect. I developed it from the information gathered on compensation in previous posts (for development of a paper for publishing on compensation and performance). I didn't want it to be too large.

I need to walk
Wordpress prompt for today: How often do you walk or run?
My response:
These days I don't walk a lot outdoors. My neighborhood is very hilly so it takes a lot to walk a short distance from my home. I am unable to drive to another location or to the gym to walk. I do walk a lot when I go shopping at stores like Costco (and that is not very often). A treadmill would be good for exercising indoors.
Starting a few years ago, I had problems with my legs. I was even in rehab to get back to normal walking. Walking isn't the same today. I need to exercise. I don't want the walking to perform daily/typical activities to be difficult. I recall I had trouble walking in the airport the last time I left the U.S. (see my previous post: https://fahmeenaodetta.blogspot.com/2024/03/feeling-good.html).

Update
I feel out of sorts today. My right eye feels puffy and painful. My left eye is also affected. I need to rest.
Incidentally, I received an email for alumni of another school to provide updated contact information, information on achievements, and so on. I provided updated contact information. The email gave me the idea to announce the publishing of papers and my poem book when it does occur. The publisher is supposed to handle the marketing of my poem book, but I can promote the book in outlets such as alumni magazines/connections.

Federal and State Regulations
#ThrowbackThursday
Today I throwback to an assignment I prepared for one of my database courses at NCU now National University. In the paper, I pulled together federal and state regulations/rules, standards, and policies that pertain the data protection. The paper was similar to a document I prepared on an audit project at Grant Thornton. However, the topic was different.
I recall that I qualified for that assignment at Grant Thornton because of my auditing background.

I conducted a very brief review of federal and state laws that regulate wages/pay because it is related to my paper on compensation and performance. There are laws that require equal pay, that is equal pay for people holding similar positions and for men and women. However, I read about wage gaps all the time.
There are also regulations that require a minimum wage. I wrote a paper on minimum wage. This also touches on compensation. Maybe I should add this as one of my research areas.

Update
It is a good morning in Lanham, Maryland! I feel better today. I am enjoying coconut juice this morning. I not only drink tea. I also drink coffee which is popular in the U.S.
I like yesterday's draft a lot but it did not include all I wanted to express about the school. As an example, I would like to add something about the pastorial parent activity at the school. My pastorial father contributed in some way. That was more guidance. I stayed at the school a little longer than some other students because I signed up for A Levels. I would also like to add something about the friends I made there. I made some lifelong friends. I recall that I left music in the second year to improve my grades. That was a little painful. I also recall that my grandmother died in the middle of A Level examinations. I have a post on the Voici Paris assignment from French class so maybe I should mention it. I learned a lot in French class. There was the French play and songs that I still remember such as the 'Le vin de ma tante' song that came with an assignment to create a new verse.

Draft
I have a draft:
I appreciate a lot of things about President's College. I know that I was a part of something special. I liked the structure - a timetable of activities that provided guidance on things to consider and include in your life. For example, there was the morning run. At the school, I was introduced to a large number of areas/fields. I appreciate the introduction to computers. I specialized in business which became very important in life. I was involved in music and participated in concerts and musical performances. I started there as a fat youngster who was terribly shy. I left as a fit teenager who appreciates art, music, and so on.
Post Forthcoming
I just saw a post from the President's College Alumni Incorporated (PCAI) requesting posts from alumni on their time at the college/high school. I like this. It is a good idea by Akintayo. It seems that he is enjoying his new job as Chairman. I will contribute. I will assume it will be accepted if I send it in about a week.
Sometime in the past, I worked on a summary of President's College for my LinkedIn profile. See it below.

New update
It is as usual today. I am enjoying a cup of tea in a new mug. I could not find my GW mug today. I bought that mug from GW many years ago.
I did not work on my new paper today. I am on a short break.

Update
My interview with the Social Security Administration for disability benefits was yesterday. It was a phone interview. I thought it went well. I believe I qualify because of my health issues (eye and so on). Working in an office will be a problem especially because I will need time off for appointments. I await their decision. As I write this post I am enjoying a cup of green tea. I can't believe my eye became this much of a problem. I am not certain why I have to deal with so many health issues. I am not complaining though. So be it.

Layoffs
I ran across a site that tracks layoffs in the tech industry. I saw the number of jobs lost and wondered what the hell is happening in tech. I saw that some companies reduced jobs at specific locations, reduced specific categories of jobs, and so on. Automation is clearly affecting jobs. It got me thinking about salaries in the tech industry. People may be forced to accept lower salaries and benefits. I wish this could be added to my current research.

New labels
There is a lot of information in my blogs. I not only post about papers I am working on. I blog about jobs, childhood memories, and significant activities. I added two new tags/labels recently. Use the new tags/labels to view PastJobHighlights and favorites.
