Description

I am working on combining the descriptions I submitted with previous papers. This is my new version:

Fahmeena Odetta Moore is working to publish quality papers based on papers completed for her PhD courses at Northcentral University (now National University). For her PhD courses, she completed papers on a variety of topics: Decision-making, Usability and Consumer Analytics, Innovation, Technology to Handle Employee Risk, Quality and Success, Videos, and Social Media. She has a background in multiple fields of study and usually combines ideas from different disciplines in her papers. One sub-topic she likes is usability for decision-making that combines ideas from information technology, economics, and marketing, and involves design, requirements, and even data analysis (when used for dashboards, financial applications, and so on). Ms. Moore's background includes master's degrees in Finance and Information Systems from US universities, a bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Guyana, and success at A-Level Accounting, Pure Mathematics with Statistics and Economics examinations. She qualified for and attended top schools in Guyana that instilled the idea that she should strive for excellence in everything she does. Ms. Moore has a BA/Analyst background. She has worked in the IT Analyst role supporting organizations such as the Federal Aviation Administration and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

I think this may be too long. I have to work on it some more.

Strong Background Needed

There is a lot of economics in my papers. "Where does the economics come from?" some may ask. I actually have a bachelor's degree in economics. And, I was studying economics long before then. I studied economics in high school. I passed economics at GCE O-level in 1991 (the certificates I posted about a month ago show this - see https://fahmeenaodetta.blogspot.com/2022/10/pc-certificates.html). Back then, economics was not offered at CXC so I wrote it through the London external examinations.

Having a strong background in an area/subject is important. My MS degree in Information Systems at UMBC (see https://fahmeenaodetta.blogspot.com/2022/07/commencement-documents.html) provided a strong background for website creation/development, among other areas. I took the basic IS course that taught me how to build websites, including coding/developing a shopping cart and creating an application that writes to a database. It started with a basic website that included a picture and a description of myself. Before long, I was creating more complex websites with tables and scrolling banners. I still remember the "mock" magazine e-commerce website I created for the course. I designed the website to allow the purchase of subscriptions to a variety of magazines.

I am familiar with the basics.

Dashboard Design And Usability

I found another interesting paper on dashboard design.

Using Feedback Intervention Theory to Guide Clinical Dashboard Design
By: Dawn Dowding, PhD, RN, FAAN, Jacqueline Merrill, PhD, RN, FAAN, FACMI, and David Russell, PhD
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6371234/

The authors recognized that dashboards could be used to provide feedback to staff to improve their performance. They used the Feedback Intervention Theory to inform the design of a dashboard. Usability testing/evaluation is used in the design process.

I am so happy that I returned to school to expand my knowledge of information systems (first a MS degree at UMBC and then my PhD studies). I learned a lot and was able to immediately apply the knowledge to improve my job performance. I am happy that I discovered usability. It is a good fit for me because I always championed the "voice of the user." Apparently, I was into design as well.

I have several years of experience designing screens/user interfaces (UI) for new software. I first worked with the UI Designer to ensure the UI would allow the user to complete all tasks/details included in the use case. Later, I prepared UI to go along with requirements for a financial area. I worked with subcontractors that represented the users as well as the users themselves.

IT vs Business

Further thoughts on my education.....

I started my career in finance and somehow ended up in the IT (information technology) field. Who would have thought? Maybe I should have selected a technical undergraduate degree. I am happy that I decided to study computer studies at O Level even though I was a business student. And, I am happy that I enrolled in many computer studies courses later on.

I found this old blog post on the project/coursework I completed for the O Level examination: https://moorefo1.blogspot.com/2014/02/this-past-week-was-my-feel-good-week.html (from blog: https://moorefo1.blogspot.com/)

This is an interesting video on the decision to study computer science at A Levels: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHTSRSzgb4E
