The different peoples/cultures contributed to the food in the country. For example, pepperpot is based on a traditional Amerindian dish. Metemgee is from Afro-Guyanese. And, roti and dhal from the Indo-Guyanese. It is good that people do not only consume (or stick with) the food from their original ancestors. Everyone eats and enjoys the food. There are interesting mixes (ideas) such as fish cakes with dhal and rice, choka with dhal, and so on.
I had some good dhal puri today from my uncle and aunt (they came over). Like dhal, dhal puri (called just puri) is made with split peas.
