Update

My sincere condolences to the families of the "army men" who lost their lives in the accident. Guyana lost some talent.

I am working on the preparation of that audit resume I mentioned. I recall that I planned to move to the big city (away from DC) for a Financial Analyst job over 15 years ago. I was about to move when another opportunity presented itself. The opportunity was the auditor position. I learned a lot at that job/organization. My LinkedIn profile includes examples of audit reports I drafted (worked on as an auditor in the office). Those reports were also published (and they show my initials in the code on the cover page).

Auditing Position

I have had success training/teaching others so a training position would work well for me. I am sure that my background (education, experience, and so on) would also get me an Auditing/Inspector General position. I have a lot of experience with audits. Early in my career, I provided information for Auditors to complete their audit of the processes and controls in capital planning. Later, I obtained a Financial Auditing position. I used my auditing knowledge in the Testing department within IT. Later, I understood processes and issues very easily in an IT Analyst position because of my auditing experience. I do not believe my current Analyst resume highlights my auditing experience adequately. I think I need an Auditing resume.

I have a research resume, an Analyst/Consultant resume, and a HR resume (all on LinkedIn). I think I need to add an audit resume.

Career Match For My Strengths

I had a brainstorming session on my strengths and personality that led to career ideas for the future. It is a little late to be thinking about career possibilities, but I found the exercise interesting and rewarding.

I always believed I was a good person. At around age 7, I loved to read my Book of Bible Stories and learn of Almighty God.
I did not like to lie or cheat. I did not want to sin - I understood what sin was from the Book of Bible Stories.
I wanted to be perfect - to speak properly, to be clean and free of germs.
I am a fair person who does not like bias.
I am a loner who gets along with different types of people (people from different descents).
I have had a few mishaps so I know what it is like to mess up.

These are my innate abilities that suggest I should choose a career in ethics, a career such as investigations or auditing. 

Ethics has been a problem for more than a few years. A lot of people in business in the U.S. are unethical. With a reputation as an ethical person, I will be sought after for ethical careers, which is outstanding.

A person's credit report provides some indication of how responsible a person is and maybe how ethical he or she is. I have had some trouble in this area, but am doing better.

Real-Time Monitoring for Credit Card Fraud

For the paper on real-time business intelligence systems, I opted to review the systems at credit card companies that monitor account activity for fraud. I was reminded that credit card companies monitor account activity when a family member received a call from his company because they suspected fraud.
It is interesting that: for credit card fraud, the institutions contact the customer to ask whether their card was lost or stolen, while for real-time bus updates, customers contact the bus companies to request an update on wait times (when the next bus will arrive).

On other note, monitoring/checking for fraud is something auditors do. As a Financial Auditor at ODCA, I reviewed financial records - receipts, bank statements, and the like - to determine whether procedures were followed etc. Such reviews were designed to detect fraud if present. Fraud is interesting. My auditing experience aided my understanding of processes and my preparation of use cases for a fraud case management system later.

Recently, I was worried that I would receive a call from the bank after I entered an incorrect PIN for my debit card at a gas station. I ensured that I used the correct PIN for my card at an ATM a short while after. Maybe the rules are different for debit cards. 

Transferring to a new career

Training and experience in performance auditing provided skills that transferred well to testing computer systems/applications. Here is an example of a performance auditing report:

It determined the extent to which recommendations were followed. 

Testing compares actual to expected - looking for defects or unexpected/undesirable system behavior.
